Committed to minimize your costs for Divorce

How much will my California divorce cost? Our Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks divorce lawyer can answer.

During your initial consultation with me, we will discuss fees in detail. Like most experienced Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks divorce lawyers, I charge by the hour. Thus, the ultimate cost of your divorce depends on how much time I need to devote to it. Divorce and other family law matters tend to be unpredictable due to their emotional nature.

I appreciate that you would like some idea of the cost so that you can budget for it. After I become familiar with the facts of your case, I may be able to provide you with a rough estimate. But please keep in mind that the actual cost may be lesser or greater because of factors that neither of us can control.

Family law matters can become more complex and more time-consuming than they first appear. The level of conflict between you and your spouse and your ability to cooperate and compromise with each other will have a direct bearing on the amount of time spent on your case. Another important factor in the cost of your divorce is your willingness to cooperate with me and follow my instructions and advice.

If we agree that I will represent you, we will both sign an engagement agreement that will detail my hourly rates and how I will bill you. I will ask you for an initial retainer, the amount of which depends on the complexity of your case. Thereafter, I will be your lawyer and I will not accept other cases that might conflict with my obligations to you.

Each month, my office will send you a bill itemizing the work performed on your case and the charge for it. The charges will be deducted from your retainer. Once your retained is used up, I may ask for an additional retainer or agree to let you make monthly payments instead. In addition to fees for my professional services, you will be charged for items such as court filing fees, postage, photocopying, and the like.

More than 90% of divorce cases conclude with a settlement. But a few cases require a trial. If your case needs a trial, you will need to pay an additional retainer. A trial is a very expensive, and it is best avoided if possible.
